studying cultural change around death, dying and bereavement
Welcome to the Project Website for Island, Life and Death: a case study in cultural change. This is a research project being conducted by Tia DeNora, a cultural sociologist based at the University of Exeter, in the UK. The aim of the project is to explore how the members of a local community on the Isle of Wight address loss, death and grieving, and how that process is supported by a local, flagship hospice – Mountbatten Isle of Wight. The project is connected to other projects and researchers in the UK and abroad. It begins in September 2022 and runs for two years. It is funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
