Community

Different people are kindly supporting this project. They bring a range of skills and expertise as well as sharing ongoing findings from their research, practice, and experience. They are:

Gary Ansdell is an experienced music therapist, trainer and researcher. He currently has academic and teaching positions at the universities of  Exeter, Bergen and Limerick, and is an Associate of Nordoff Robbins, UK, where he is Convenor of the MPhil/PhD programme. He is a recipient of the European Music Therapy Confederation Award, 2022.

Tia DeNora is the researcher on this project. She is Professor in Sociology, University of Exeter, and formerly Professor II in Music Therapy at The Grieg Academy, University of Bergen, Norway. She was Principal Investigator on the Care for Music project and currently holds a Leverhulme Major Fellowship for the work on Island Life and Death. She is a Fellow of the British Academy.

Wolfgang Schmid Wolfgang is Professor of Music Therapy at the Grieg Academy, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen in Norway, and holds a part-time position at Haukeland University hospital where he works as a music therapist with people in end-of-life care. He is a musician and music therapist, trained at the Hochschule for Music and Theatre in Munich and at the University of Witten-Herdecke in Germany.  Wolfgang has 25 years of experience as music therapy practitioner-researcher in interdisciplinary intensive and palliative care, with autistic children and persons with dementia.
